MOPAR Nationals

(direct from Rick):  What an incredible time I had the weekend of August 7th - 9th at the 29th Annual MOPAR Nationals which were held at the National Trail Raceway in Columbus, OH.  The awesome cars, professional drivers, the racing, the vendors - and of course, the over 50,000 MOPAR fans that came out this weekend to enjoy it all.

I met so many amazing people - most who know me from my years with "KC and the Sunshine Band," but also quite a few people who are familiar with our new music and artists.  It's great to be remembered for the past... but it's also great to know that the music we're creating today is also making a lasting impression.

That's what it's all about - creating memories that last a lifetime!  For sure, that's what this weekend will be for me... and I can't WAIT for next year!  30th Annual MOPAR Nationals, people!  BE THERE!!!

Birthday Wishes!

Thanks to everyone for the amazing outpouring of birthday wishes for Rick.  I had a wonderful phone conversation with him on Sunday morning, and he was in good spirits. We hope to plan a REAL birthday celebration for next year (if it is God's will, of course). Hope you will all continue to stay in touch with him.  Your notes of love and support (along with church and bible study) continue to keep his spirits up - and his sanity intact.

Many blessings to you all!!!

July 2, 2011 Update

New Music here on the web site AND BIG NEWS coming soon!

Thanks to everyone for your love, support and for bringing your truth forward to assist Rick in this next phase.

Rick has been an amazing witness for the Lord in his current surroundings and has lived his life by example by being a positive influence in his surroundings thus impacting countless lives for the better. The letters I have received from both inmates and their famiies about what Rick's guidance and example has done for them or their loved ones is beyond humbling. He's even helped several inmates learn how to read and write - a godsend to their families who have not been able to afford the phone calls (an average phone call from prison costs around $20 dollars for a 15 minute call...). While the intent of prison is to punish those behind bars, the families are also being punished by the system via outrageous phone charges and for monies toward extra food in their commisarry. Those who cannot afford commisarry are grossly malnutritioned, due to cutbacks which do not provide adequate food portions in the chow hall.

Rick is being treated kindly and with respect by the officers (as much as is allowed without seeming preferential), which is not a common occurence in this environment. His daily life consists of awakening at 3:00 a.m. to work in the kitchen five days a week, until around 7 a.m. He resides on the third floor of a 70 year old building with about 200 other people. Living conditions are bad, considering they have exceeded the 70 person maximum per floor. Double bunks have approximately 1 1/2 feet of space on all sides. There are four sinks in the bathroom to serve all. Same with toilets and showers. There is no ventilation or air conditioning. Temperatures are currently at over 100 degrees 24 hours a day. Theft, violence and illness are a daily occurrence. The man next to Rick has diabetic seizures regularly - life saving meds are not often made available to inmates for their conditions (they are told to purchase 'herbal supplements' in the commissary for their health issues...). Rick has also seen his fair share of violence, including seeing a man's head bashed in with a 'lock in a sock' by another inmate with blood drenching the floors from the violence. Another man was kicked and tasered for fun by corrections officers in the bathroom one night (those officers were terminated, but these are the sorts of things that go on behind bars) - the man's painful screams of terror still haunt Rick.

Sometimes we do not know how God is going to call us to serve, or the path that He wants us to take in service - but we must follow His lead. Not our will, but His will be done. This is how Rick now lives his life daily. The Lord has blessed him greatly, and he is so very thankful for each and every day to bring new hope to others and to help those in studying the Word of God, even with the daily fears that prison life present. He has put on the Armor of God and so far, the Lord has kept him safe.

Rick is honored to have been chosen to do the Lord's work in this way and prays daily for all of you, and also for those responsible for putting him behind bars. ('Forgive them, Lord - for they know not what they do...')

Even when this outcome is reversed (our faith, belief and the facts now available which soon will be made public give us hope that this is a very strong possibility), our work and focus will continue in conjunction with the powers that be which oversee Ohio's prison system to bring help and hope to those who are seeking education, spiritual mentoring and stability as they build a foundation that will benefit them and their loved ones once they are released. Where budget cuts are imposed, we hope to find and build ways to bridge that gap. Even with all of this, Rick still loves Ohio and wants to help the state in any way that he can. We've got some great ideas to do just that!!!

If you have any questions about what's going on with Rick, please drop me a line through this web site and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner.

Through the eyes of a child...

The following is from a Cyber-ministry newsletter that both Rick and I thought was so touching and accurate for today's over-complicated world - adults tend to make following God and our life's purpose on this earth very complicated, but it truly isn't.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Scripture: Mark 10:15
"These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom.

Mark this: Unless you accept God's kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you'll never get in." MSG

The following is said to be from an 8 year old boy who was completing a third grade homework assignment in a Christian School. The assignment: "Explain God."

The boy began, "One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to Moms and Dads."

He followed up: "God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off."

The boy continued: "God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your Mom and Dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have."

He also added: "Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in town --- at least there aren't any who come to our church."

The boy, speaking about Jesus: "Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K."

About church the boy commented: "You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church or do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong and besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway."

He followed with this Atheist analysis: "If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely --- because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim."

As a wrap the boy continued, "But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. So I better get to work telling everyone about him so they don't miss out. And that's who God is and why I believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

Prayer: Father thank you for childlike faith, no matter how old I am.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen!

Court Update

UPDATE:

Many of you have contacted me, asking about the results of the NON-ORAL HEARING to review Rick's
POSTCONVICTION RELIEF PETITION which took place on Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 AT 4:30 P.M.

As of this writing (09/23/11), there is still no ruling.

To us, this indicates that the judge has taken everything under advisement and is giving thoughful and diligent consideration to all of the information presented by both sides.

Given that so much evidence and information was submitted, it would be unrealistic to expect a quick turn-around on this matter.
There is also no specific time frame in which the judge has to make his ruling.

As always, SINCEREST THANKS FOR YOUR MANY PRAYERS,
NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND UNWAVERING SUPPORT which you send to Rick.
